Description

Sweet Red Bean Mochi Balls are a delightful fusion of chewy mochi and sweet red bean paste that will transport you to the heart of Japanese dessert culture. These soft, pillowy treats are perfect for any occasion, whether you’re hosting a tea party or enjoying a cozy night in. With simple ingredients and easy preparation, they promise an unforgettable flavor experience that will leave your guests asking for more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sweet rice flour (mochi flour)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup red bean paste (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tbsp potato starch (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by gathering all ingredients and tools: mixing bowl, spatula, measuring cups, and a steamer basket lined with parchment paper.
  2. In the mixing bowl, combine sweet rice flour, granulated sugar, and water until smooth to form a thick batter.
  3. Transfer the mixture into the lined steamer basket and steam over simmering water for about 25 minutes until shiny and slightly translucent.
  4. Allow the steamed dough to cool slightly before dusting your work surface with potato starch.
  5. Dust your hands with potato starch to handle the sticky dough. Take small portions of dough, flatten them in your palm, place about half a teaspoon of red bean paste in the center, fold over and roll into balls.
  6. Arrange on a serving platter and dust lightly with additional potato starch if needed before serving.
