Description

Cherry Vareniki are delightful Ukrainian dumplings made with a tender dough and stuffed with sweet, juicy cherries. These little pockets of joy are perfect for any occasion, whether as a comforting dessert or a unique appetizer. With their irresistible blend of sweet and tart flavors, each bite will transport you back to cherished family gatherings. Serve them warm with a dollop of sour cream for an unforgettable treat that everyone will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup fresh cherries (pitted)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Water (as needed)
  • Sour cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center, add the egg, and enough water to form a soft dough. Knead until smooth.
  2. Pit and chop cherries, then combine with sugar in a bowl to release juices.
  3. Roll out dough thinly and cut into circles using a glass or cookie cutter.
  4. Place a spoonful of cherry filling on each circle, fold over, and seal tightly.
  5. Boil salted water; drop in vareniki gently. Cook until they float (about 3-5 minutes). Remove with a slotted spoon.
  6. Serve warm topped with sour cream.
