  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Frosting:
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ? cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350?F (175?C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar and vegetable oil. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined; avoid over-mixing.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool before removing from pans.
  6. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar to achieve desired consistency. Frost each layer and the top of the cake.
