Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350?F (175?C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray with nonstick spray.
  2. For the brownie layer: In a bowl, mix melted butter and granulated sugar. Stir in cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder; fold into brownie mixture until just combined.
  3. For the red velvet layer: Mix melted butter and brown sugar in a separate bowl. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring; mix well. Gradually fold in flour until just combined.
  4. Pour half of the brownie batter into the pan. Add dollops of red velvet batter on top and swirl gently with a knife.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top during the last five minutes of baking.
  6. Allow to cool before slicing into squares.
