  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ? cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente (about 8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in flour to create a roux and cook for one minute.
  3. Gradually add whole milk while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until well coated.
  6. Transfer half of the mixture to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle half of the panko breadcrumbs and half of the Parmesan on top. Add remaining macaroni mixture and finish with more breadcrumbs.
  7. Preheat oven to 350?F (175?C) and bake uncovered for about 25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
