Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ? cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground ginger

? cup unsalted butter (softened)

3 large eggs

? cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Eggnog for buttercream


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350?F (175?C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.

2. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Set aside.

3. In another bowl, cream butter until smooth; gradually add sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time and add vanilla.

4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture until combined.

5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

7. For the frosting, mix softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth; gradually add eggnog until creamy

Notes

For extra moisture, consider substituting buttermilk for regular milk.

To enhance flavor, use freshly grated spices instead of pre-ground ones.

Chill the buttercream before frosting for easier application
