Coated in a perfectly seasoned batter and fried to golden perfection, these tomatoes make an irresistible appetizer or side dish. Serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce for an unforgettable flavor experience that transforms any gathering into a celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe red tomatoes (about 300g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Wash and pat dry the tomatoes, then slice into half-inch thick rounds.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one for seasoned flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for cornmeal.
  3. Dip each tomato slice first in flour, then in egg wash, and finally coat with cornmeal.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  5. Fry the breaded tomato slices in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer the fried tomatoes to paper towels to drain excess oil before serving hot.
